She has won the award for her Victorian children's murder mystery The Lie Tree.
Only one other children's novel has won the award during the entire time the prize has been running - this went to Philip Pullman's The Amber Spyglass in 2002.
James Heneage, chair of the judges for the prize, called the book a 'page turner' and said that he 'wants it to be a bestseller.'
I guess only time will tell. But congratulations Frances Hardinge on your well-deserved victory.
